Artemis is an only gnome from a simple, curious family. She spent her youth in the colony of Grudiment, deep in the forest. Artemis enjoys her people, but long sought to explore her curiosity for the woods. Her family calls her Wandra for her desire to always wander. Her best friends call her Leefa for her love of earth.
Telling her parents she sought more connection with nature, she left her colony at the age of 55. She wandered the forests and made a few select friends. After a year on her own, Artemis/Wandra/Leefa joined with other druids as part of the Circle of the Moon. About once a month, fellow druids would gather under the moonlight to share news and explore new powers. Many had learned how to temporarily change into beasts. Many were so connected with nature that they had pets who accompanied them on their journeys. Such pets were helpful in serving as the eyes and ears of their master and occasionally aiding in combat.
As time went on, the news shared among the Circle of the Moon became more concerning and grim. Fewer druids were showing up regularly and there was news of forest villages and communities being destroyed and/or vanishing. Her friend Ori, a hill dwarf fighter who liked to roam the woods, told her one day he went out for his daily forest walk and returned to find no sign of his people. The village wasn’t destroyed, but all the dwarves had vanished without a trace.
For several years, Artemis has roamed the forest and has not been home to Grudiment in quite some time. One night her mother visited her in a dream and encouraged her to explore outside of the forest. She told her the answers she sought came from more populated locations, and she could not defeat evil alone.
Artemis is concerned that if no action is taken that all forests could turn evil. She once heard of certain gems with powers to protect forests from evil and her quest is to find such gems and protect the wooded lands that are important to her and her people.
